KATrina and baby kitten

It started to rain today. It’s been threatening for the last few. We’ve been concerned for this stray and her babies living in the storm drain, but there was no way to find out where she had hidden her kittens. We’ve been feeding her for weeks. A few days ago, I tried to teach her how to use the dog door in case she wanted to bring her kittens inside. I showed her twice, but thought that she probably didn’t get it. Andy came downstairs two mornings ago with the cat walking around the kitchen like she owned it, meowing for food. Being hungry is a great motivator. Later on in the day I discovered that she had torn open a bag of hamburger buns and helped herself to some mouthfuls.

This morning we were working on the RV and I heard a sound that was unmistakably kitten. I ran out the door onto the driveway yelling, “Kittens! Kittens!”. She was trotting down our driveway with a baby in her mouth. I made her a box with some clothes that were headed for Good Will. As you can see from the picture, a couple of flannels circa 1994 Seattle Grunge. We thought she might go back for the rest, but we don’t think there are any more.

She and the kitten seem really happy. I’m glad she decided that our garage was a safe haven.
