Four Queens

I felt like I should say something. It’s my way. But as of now, not much has changed. We’re at the Four Queens until Wednesday morning and then we’re moving over to our friend Tim’s house for six weeks while he’s in Europe.

I decided to take the Bikram 30 day challenge and try to do a class every day for a month. I made it 11 days and today I’m taking off. I need a little more recovery time to get up to speed. Yesterday I laid on the floor for half the class because my body rebelled so badly. My muscles just wouldn’t cooperate.

I wish I had something awesomely interesting to write about but it’s been pretty predictable in our own unpredictable hobo way. Andy and I have been getting up early. He plays some video poker to keep up our comp food and room status and then programs all day. I go to Bikram and run errands, laundry, grocery store, get stuff from the RV or hang out at the pool. We reconvene in the room in the evening maybe go to the cafe or order room service, possibly make some dehydrated backpacker food or soup on our camping stove, watch some bad tv or a downloaded movie and then go to bed at a reasonable hour.

I love our hobo life. It is good.

I’ve seen it before, but it still creeps me out.

Robotics firm Boston Dynamics has released new video of its most advanced quadruped robot, BigDog. The company received a $10 million DARPA award to “produce a robot with animal-like strength, speed and mobility,” Mass High Tech notes.

In the footage, the robotic dog is shown climbing a hillside, navigating snowy terrain, and regaining its balance after being kicked.

The first baseball game is tomorrow. Only one, and in Japan. Theoretically, our season could officially start tomorrow. Andy is downstairs playing video poker for an hour or so to comp our room for tonight and then his fiery brain will be back to work. Me? I’m laying in bed looking out the window at the top of the Freemont Street Experience and the Lady Luck Casino.

The thought of going back to the Bikram torture chamber sounded horrible yesterday. I only got through 70 minutes of the 90 minute class. I spent the last twenty flopped out on a cold bench in the locker room. I’ve never left a class early before. I thought I should take today off, but this morning I woke up with my neck and back feeling the best I can remember. I might reconsider, suck it up and go. I have choices. The classes run about every three hours from 6 am to 9 pm.

I’ve been doing Bikram Yoga every day for the past five. The teachers always try to get people to come for thirty days straight. I thought I’d try. I felt a little bad that I took advantage of the studio and changed my name to get the free month of yoga since I had been there twice before. But then again, I didn’t feel that bad because this yoga, although the most therapeutic I’ve practiced to date, is pretty profit driven and gross in a way.

Even though getting the free month of yoga technically goes with my philosophy of only steal from the people that I somehow rationalize “deserve it”, I still felt bad and told them what I did. Then, they made me feel really bad by thanking me for my honesty and giving me the free month anyway. Damn yogis.

Location update-possible boring entry

Just to keep those in the know, who want to stay in the know, of our whereabouts, we’re back in Vegas. After a few nights of sleeping in the RV (which was awesome!) We checked into the Four Queens downtown. With a limited amount of play Andy can get our rooms comped and he can finish the rest of his baseball software tune ups at an actual desk. After that, we’re moving into a friend’s place for six weeks (April 2nd-May 15th) when he goes to Europe. That’s as far as these two vagabond hobos have planned things.

The baseball season starts April first. I’m actually not dreading it. Andy’s new plan has him making all the bets before 10 am or so. This means, I get to see my husband all day and we can actually do stuff other than drive around to different casinos all day and fry in the Vegas desert sun. Not to jinx it or anything but, so far I’m feeling pretty positive about the next few months.

Dude. I’m not one to brag. Well not alot anyway, but….I am a really good snowboarder. Also, what I didn’t know is that I have a more super expert teacher than I thought. Who knew Andy snowboards double black diamonds.

On the last run today I was able to go down a super steep (for me) slope turning left and right all the way down and coming to a sharp, snow spraying stop. If you could have seen me behind my neoprene face mask, you would have seen me grinning from ear to ear.

It was freezing cold, and for the first time, I felt none of it because I finally, after all of Andy’s prodding, was properly dressed for sub zero temperatures. I think I could make friends with snow. It’s not so bad when you don’t have to shovel it or drive to work in it.

The swanky entertainment center is from our room here in Brian Head. You can glean from it’s looks, the brown shag carpeting and the wood paneling what the rest of the place is like.

I made it through the first day of snowboarding with out any death. I did come in a little early after bashing my head on ice packed snow and jamming my wrist. It was unfortunate timing because I was just beginning to get comfortable with turning and slowing down. I felt pretty nauseous afterwards and decided just to pack it in early instead of calling death or any spirits of broken wrists. Experticon Andy dropped me off at the superfly pad and went back out.

Tomorrow, I’m buying the helmet that I passed on this morning. I really didn’t think I’d need it because I thought I’d be on the bunny slopes all day.

I never thought it was possible to enjoy a place with snow.

We made it to Brian Head. I wish I could show you this swank-a-delic, 70’s room we have. Unfortunately, the internet here is slow, and my files are not willing to be uploaded.

Right now, a private screening of the Sci-Fi original, Bats…Human Harvast in front of the fire and then to bed to dream of my first day of snowboarding.

We’re leaving for Brianhead Utah in five minutes. I bought some used stuff online and some new stuff on sale. I have a white-ish board, black boots, gray pants and an orange jacket that I already owned.

I am going to look hotttt on the slopes.

We’re leaving San Diego tomorrow and heading back to Vegas. So sad. Although we’re leaving immediately to go snowboarding in Utah on Friday.

This is the only picture (that I know of) of my naked butt on the internet. Normally I don’t post these kinds of things, but in this case I thought it might fall under the heading of “educational”.

By this, you should be educated that you should not wear flat soled Uggs while trying to balance on a slippery rock and break off a large, unwieldy tree limb with the leverage of your body.

I finally coughed up the $24 and got a pro account, so you can see all of the pictures here.

Or as a slideshow here

Please do not call the embassy.

We are back with stories to tell and pictures to post.

We’re leaving for here tomorrow morning. We should be back Sunday night, unless we decide to go somewhere else or stay a little longer. If you don’t hear from me by Thursday, call the US embassy in Mexico in our behalf.

Yesterday I went out on the bay in a friend’s parent’s boat. We fed the seagulls from the back while speeding around the bay. There’s a few more pics but I like this one the best. It was a great way to spend a Sunday, especially the champaign.

Andy is home from snowboarding without incident.
