Brought to you by the letter “ebay”

I’m just about done listing our lives on Ebay. I’m not sure if “done” means finished in the sense of “no more stuff” or “done” in the sense of “over it”. It’s hard to see the reality of the situation when you’re so close to the subject matter.

Whatever the case, tonight, I’m done in every sense of the word. I think this may be specific to girls but, I’m feeling very fat and uninspired. The bedroom is cordoned off into piles of “keep”, “Ebay”, “Craigslist” and “not sure, just ignore until it takes care of itself”. Our lighting is a industrial orange two headed shop light that throws off a tremendous amount of heat and light. I’m laying on our temporary bed of two twin size memory foam rolls stacked on each other. They look filthy and I would be mortified if anyone saw our bedding in this state. Unfortunately I am equally uninspired to fight with the heavy and cumbersome memory foam to get the covers off and then wrestle them back on after the wash. The double foam stack puts me about four inches above the hardwood floor. Lying next to me is a box of Peanut Butter Bumpers, a ripped open bag of Ricola cough drops, a praying mantis case that Engineer Blair made this summer. It’s in it’s very own pile of “can’t part with, but really should get rid of it”. Actually a few things have this designation. I find that I keep picking this stuff up and moving it to different corners of the room. As the piles get smaller, these items are becoming harder to ignore.

Andrew Blair has been working on some last minute programming with our very brainiacaly bent friend Rufus (who might be hiking the PCT with us). They’re working on some magic voodoo for the superbowl. Since I am not brainiacaly bent in the same fashion, this leaves me to be left to my own devices while the two talk regressions, smergressions and other math stuff that my mind can’t wrap around. So, I’ve posted a few last things online and turned to a weak but tasty rum and coke to continue the spree from last nights drinking and listing extravanganza.

It’s 8:43. 9 is considered “hiker’s midnight”. I feel like it might be time for bed.

  • Hi babe,
It’s Liz(mzBadger from Spanish Dict) wishing you good luck.

I just wanted to say I feel for you, I did the same ”journey” a year and a half ago in preparation for moving to Mexico, ridding myself of all but a few suitcases full of my stuff and my past, everything in heaps like you say; ebay, charity shop, friends, should get rid of but don’t want to… etc IT WAS TOUGH! People who says it’s easy really should try it. It’s amazing how attached you become to stuff you have 10, 20, 30 yrs of history with. Little presents from friends where an absolute killer for me.
There were time I’d cry to myself thinking ”I can’t do this”, but somehow you find the strength to go on… I slept for a week when I finally got here.

Have a wonderful time hiking, don’t let the blisters get you down… pack some medicated talcum powder… and think about that video idea again.

    All the best!
    Liz
