Prepare, prepare and prepare
I feel I have neglecting proper updates in lieu of facebook blurbs and twitter.
I’m at the outdoor portion of a Starbucks in San Diego listening to Peter Murphy and looking at traffic. Andy is in Vegas playing hockey and doing manly things with other men. I’m staying in San Diego doing girly things with other girls.
We’ve been living on the deck of friend X (she likes to remain anonymous in text on the internets). It’s actually really cozy. I don’t even mind people thinking we’re completely insane for living on a deck for a month. Really, sleeping on a tempurpedic pad and having access to a hot shower and a kitchen seems like insane luxury when compared to what we’re planning on embarking on very soon.
Officially, we have one box of food packed and 28 more to go. The hardest part really was figuring out the calories per serving and then breaking up ten pound bags of freeze dried food into daily portions. I didn’t know that I should have bought a respirator for the clouds of cheese dust kicked up by the process.
If you’re interested, here’s the google doc for our resupply points.
I tried to make a google map for the mail drops. The points are correct but there are too many for google to handle so it barely makes it out of CA. Also, the actual walking directions are a little wonky because it wanted to but us on roads.
Not to mention, it’s not allowing me to embed the map. I’m working on it though. If anyone has mapping suggestions, I’m all ears.
You can view the work in progress here.
We could be setting out in two weeks, but more realistically three or four. It’s seems like a strange dream. I can’t imagine how we’ll feel actually walking our first steps of the trail in Campo. Very surreal.
