Still Packing
Six days until departure. We’ve been spending all of our time re bagging food, taking care of last minute details and vacillating wildly between exhaustion and elation. Tonight, we’re weighing and updating our gear list, and I just finished addressing all the mailing labels for the 29 boxes of food. We changed our minds last minute on our stove and bought a lightweight combination that burns both wood and alcohol. It’s pretty sweet…if you’re into that sort of thing…and we are.
We also ordered the brand new swanky air pad from Thermarest. I know that it’s probably not the most interesting thing to report on but, we tested it out in our friend’s backyard and the temperature got down to the low 40′s and we were comfortable without any of our cold weather gear on under the sleeping bag.
The snowfall in the mountains are still below normal and hopefully will stay that way until June when we’ll be getting there. Our target date to start walking is April 11th, possibly the 12th if we need an extra day.
I don’t know the intended audience for your blog, but I stumbled on it while mooning over thru hiking possibilities on the web.
Now, I’ve been reading along for a month or two, and even the prep stage is really inspiring. I sure hope you’re able to check in along the trail.

We’re planning on updating every few days from the trail via Jott, and our friend is putting together a podcast from the trail. The new site is http://www.walk2650.com, and should be fully functional in the next few days. But hopefully I can work out a way that the updates will go to both sites.
Also, finally after years of prodding, Andy, who is a fantastic writer, will be updating along the trail.
